yeah Centrifugal Pump can dead head, the casing temp climbs, but no drama, and yes high pressure multi stage Centrifugal Pumps temps climb real quick (and usally have temp based pressure relief valves).
so all the above answers are correct,
but note,
dont dead head a positive displacement pump, (that doesnt have a pressure relief plate arrgt.) or your break something.

Two points.
1. if the pump is run for a “long time” it will heat up and eventually cause the fluid in side to vaporize and seize the pump. In the case of multistage centrifugals, they typically have a minimum flow requirement due to thrust imbalances that can develop at low flow rates.
2. some centrifugal pumps are considered high pressure specially if they are multistage. They can easily develop 1000 psi or more. They pumps are more more sensitive to running dead headed.

Hi,
The pump will generate the maximum pressure (also known as shut-off pressure) and will utilize the minimum power.
Hope this is helpful. Bye.

centrifugal pumps are categorized under low pressure pumps.. so pump will run at usual speed even the delivery valve is closed completely…
