is the heating &domestic water mixing ?caused by an old heat exchanger ?
Glenn I think is telling you that there is a leak on the system somewhere, it is possible to be the heatex, but not likely, you would have water dripping from the bottom of the boiler. Combi boilers do require topping up, but a leak free one would need it perhaps once a year. Good luck.
have you checked your presure reliefe valve? this should blow off at 3 bar if it go,s off at lower it could be mucked up best op replace other probs system leak from anywhrer unlikley to be heatexchanger unless leaking
What boiler is it? Have a look out side, there should be a copper pipe coming out of the wall usually below the flue. See if any water is leaking out of it. Also when the heating is on does the pressure gauge go very high. Also how often are you topping up the pressure. Make sure your not topping it up too much, should be about 1.5 bar
First check the safety valve outlet which should be piped to outside and see if it is dripping if it is, this could indicate either a faulty safety valve or a faulty expansion vessel ( the air charge pressure may have dropped) . If the expansion vessel is faulty this would cause your system to discharge through the safety valve when the system heats up and therefore show a loss of pressure when the system cooled down. Unlikely to be the domestic heat exchanger because any leak accross this would cause your heating system pressure to rise and you wouldn`t notice any drop in pressure because the leak would continually fill the heating system.
